Translations are in English, and there are also the original texts in Japanese. When translating those into Finnish I can check the lines, and some words also when the English translation doesn't sound so good :-) I don't understand Japanese so much, but there are many words I understand. Japanese grammar is also simply and 'poetic' in my opinion.

About this cold days - cold night Issa has also another version:

year unknown

我庵や夜寒昼寒さて是は
waga io ya yozamu hiru samu sate kore wa

at my hut
cold nights, cold days...
ah well

This one was from:

(Year 1822)

草の家は秋も昼寒夜寒哉
kusa no ya wa aki mo hiru samu yozamu kana

autumn in the hut--
cold day
cold night

Extremely simple. And so very nice.

'In the hut' Issa doesn't say that it is 'his' hut, but of course it is. I added it in my Finnish translation, perhaps it was a small mistake?

L1 corrected: "syksy majassa"

;-)

Mr Sakuo in his blog http://sakuo3903.blogspot.com/ also comments and explain Issa's haiku. That is a very good blog!Tikkishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16405806987636579199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18988884.post-83696970326835696412009-02-06T19:47:00.000+01:002009-02-06T19:47:00.000+01:00Thank you, Tikkis! How would you translate Issa´s h...Thank you, Tikkis!

How would you translate Issa´s haiku into English?haiku-shelf (Angelika Wienert)https://www.blogger.com/profile/01004167617562345120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18988884.post-86775295980976985112009-02-06T19:38:00.000+01:002009-02-06T19:38:00.000+01:00maja/ssa/ni, main word is maja = cottage, a small ...maja/ssa/ni, main word is maja = cottage, a small house etc
-ssa means in
-ni mean myTikkishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16405806987636579199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18988884.post-79275510533230926572009-02-06T15:11:00.000+01:002009-02-06T15:11:00.000+01:00Okay, and yeah, Tikkis has his fine way of twistin...Okay,

and yeah, Tikkis has his fine way of twisting his stories -- better to hear from him :)

wishes,
devikaDevika Jyothihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02349153846127145464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18988884.post-83966109073688802012009-02-06T15:08:00.000+01:002009-02-06T15:08:00.000+01:00I'll tell Martin that you like the photo, he loves...I'll tell Martin that you like the photo, he loves photography.

Perhaps Juhani (Tikkis) will comment in this thread, then we will know more about the haiku.
